Last weekend’s Marley Park gigs 31/08/2006

Well, while I wasn’t playing at either of them, I have to say that last week’s Radiohead and Daft Punk shows in Marley Park were among the most enjoyable gigs I’ve ever had the pleasure of attending. Really lovely atmosphere at Radiohead, the crowd dutifully went mental for the mental songs and sang along beautifully to the slow, quiet, introspective songs, the light show/projections were great, and the performances were inspiring. Also, Beck had the funniest inter-encore act I’ve ever witnessed, with their puppet alter-egos dancing like leprechauns and trashing the Radiohead dressing rooms.
Daft Punk were fantastic too, great sounds, (although from what I hear, not too dissimilar to the set at Coachella, but who’s complaining, apart from maybe a slight lack of the early stuff getting an airing?) and an outstanding light show. And by all accounts, they appeared to really get into it themselves, uncharacteristically pumping their metal-clad fists into the air, maybe their humans were allowed to briefly take over for the evening. Even the damp conditions and the early closing of the bar didn’t dispell the overall atmosphere. I for one would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new robotic overlords.
